Editorial Standards
At Well Rested Tools, we aim to provide clear, practical, and educational content about sleep planning. Our editorial process is designed to prioritize clarity, accuracy, and honesty about what our tools can and cannot do.
1. Our Approach to Content
Our educational content is based on commonly accepted sleep concepts and published guidance from public health bodies, including the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NIH) and the CDC. Where we describe how sleep works, we link to that guidance so you can check it yourself. We do not conduct clinical research, and our content is not medically reviewed. We present this information without overstating certainty or implying professional authority we do not have.
Where we describe general practices — such as the 90-minute sleep cycle model or average sleep latency — we use measured language because these are approximations, not precise rules that apply identically to every person.
2. The 90-Minute Sleep Cycle Model
Our calculators use the widely referenced 90-minute sleep cycle model as a planning baseline. While individual sleep cycles vary (commonly estimated between 90 and 110 minutes), the 90-minute average is a practical and widely used starting point for sleep schedule planning. We treat this as a general estimate, not a precise medical measurement.
3. Medical Disclaimer
Well Rested Tools is an educational resource, not a medical provider. Our content and tools are for informational purposes only. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any sleep disorder or medical condition. If you are experiencing ongoing sleep difficulties or have health concerns related to sleep, we encourage you to consult a qualified healthcare professional.
4. Updates and Corrections
We review our guides periodically and update them when our understanding of a topic changes or when we find errors. The "Updated" date on each article reflects the most recent review. When a meaningful correction is made, we update the article date and, for significant changes, note what was corrected.
4a. Correction Policy
If you notice an error in our content — factual, methodological, or typographical — we welcome the feedback. You can reach us via our Contact page. Our goal is to be transparent about mistakes rather than quietly editing them without acknowledgment.
5. Advertising
Well Rested Tools may display advertising. Advertising is clearly separated from editorial content. Our editorial choices are not influenced by commercial relationships.
6. Use of Language
We deliberately use measured, non-absolute language throughout our guides. Phrases like "may help," "many people find," "a general estimate," and "for most adults" are intentional — not evasive. Sleep is highly individual, and overconfident language would be misleading. Where we describe something as broadly accepted (such as the existence of sleep stages), we do so because there is general agreement. Where we are giving guidance based on averages or common practice, we say so clearly.
